AASSC 44th Annual Conference: May 27 - 29, 2026
Dear Conference Participants,
We are delighted to share the program for the 44th Annual Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies in Canada (AASSC), which will take place in Edmonton, Alberta, from Wednesday, 27 May to Friday, 29 May 2026.
Please find below some practical information and guidance for your participation, as well as the final conference programme:
1. Instructions for Presenters and Chairs
To encourage focused presentations and meaningful interdisciplinary exchange, conference sessions will follow a structured format that balances presentation time with discussion. Each presenter will have 20 minutes to present their paper. After the presentations, the session will conclude with a 30-minute discussion involving all presenters and the audience. Since the AASSC is an interdisciplinary research association that brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines across the humanities and social sciences, we encourage presenters to provide sufficient context and explanation to ensure that their presentations are accessible to non-specialist audience members. For Chairs: Please feel free to contact presenters in advance to obtain basic background information that may assist you in introducing them (we will be happy to share the presenters’ email addresses if you are unable to locate them online).
2. Transportation
Transportation from Edmonton International Airport to the University of Alberta, North Campus in Edmonton:
Option 1: Taxis and Rideshares
Taxis and rideshares are the fastest options, typically taking about 25–30 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis: Flat rates from the airport to the university area generally range from $62 to $85. Taxis are available 24/7 just outside the arrivals doors. Services like Uber and Lyft operate at YEG. Average prices for a standard ride to the university area are often slightly lower than taxis, typically between $43 and $60.
Option 2: Public Transportation
Taking the bus and light rail (LRT) is the most cost-effective method.
Step 1: Route 747 Bus. Take the ETS Route 747 bus from the airport to the Century Park Transit Centre
Step 2: Capital Line LRT. From Century Park, board the Capital Line LRT heading north towardClareview or NAIT
Exit at Health Sciences/Jubilee Station for Lister Centre
Exit at University Station for Campus Tower Suites
3. Meeting Place and Campus Map
The conference will be held at the University of Alberta, on both the North Campus and the Augustana Campus in Camrose.
